The Buddy Scheme is looking for students to volunteer in 2019/20. Buddies help students to settle into university life and make the most of their time at Sussex throughout the year.

Run by the Students’ Union, the scheme involves ongoing peer support alongside fun activities designed to introduce students to each other, the local area and further afield. Past trip destinations include Kew Gardens and the Harry Potter studio tour in greater London.

Volunteering as a buddy will help you to develop professional skills like communication, time management and mentorship. You’ll play a big role in someone’s university experience, too.

Current students can learn more about becoming a buddy and apply at the scheme’s website.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis – there is not a firm deadline. Buddies will begin to be matched in August once A level results are released.

Buddy Scheme Ambassadors

New for September, you could represent the Buddy Scheme within your school of study.

As a Buddy Scheme Ambassador (also a voluntary role), you will support students during Welcome Week by answering questions, signposting students to relevant services and offering guidance. You will work closely with your school on induction and social programmes.

You will continue to help students to feel part of the global Sussex community by running activities during the year.

The scheme is looking for approachable, engaging and creative people who care about the student experience.

You can read the role description and apply online. The deadline for applications is midnight on Monday 10 June.
