Welcome to the Buddy Scheme 2022/23

Volunteering

It’s been an interesting 2022, and I can’t believe we’re already in May! The University is thick into it’s assessment period as many of you are all too aware with assessments of your own, and from all of us at the Buddy Scheme we wish you the best of luck.

We finished up this year with a fantastic minibus trip to Wakehurst Place to visit the gardens and Millennium Seed Bank – thanks to those that attended. The flowers were in full bloom for spring, and there were many interesting routes to take through the various types of garden, including many blossoms, a lake, an Asian garden, and North American theme garden.

We’ve got a couple more smaller wellbeing events before the end of term, but after that we’re looking forwards to next academic year!

If you’d like to be involved, we’d love for you to sign up as a Buddy Scheme Volunteer and help new students settle into life at Sussex – it’s super fun and low commitment, and gives you something great for your CV. The minimum we ask is one hour a week to spend talking to your Buddy, checking in with them and chatting, and using your experience of living in Brighton and studying at Sussex to share all the things you’d wish you’d known when you first arrived. Having had experience of the Scheme as a member this year, you’d also know what we’re all about and no doubt would get a lot from being a Volunteer too!

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the events over 2022/23 year, and hope you have a great summer!
