One of our Language Cafe leaders has guest written a blog to give you an idea of what it is like to be part of one of Sussex Students’ Union most successful schemes.
The Languages Café promotes communication across languages and across cultures. It helps home students and international students to make contact and network. It fosters cross-cultural friendships. In short, it brings people together!
Working as a Language Café volunteer has given me the chance to meet new people and learn a different language as well as being able to teach them English. This has been a fantastic opportunity for me to grow and flourish as a student because it allowed me to work with wonderful students and staffs. It has also enabled me to increase self-confidence. As well as that, it has provided me with an opportunity to develop new skills and build on existing experience/knowledge.
We are lucky to have the languages café. It is very friendly and allows us to improve our languages while having fun. This is an amazing arrangement. People are helping each other and having fun. Really improves understanding and language speaking skills.
Having said that, I am also looking forward to learning from others about their experiences, solving problems and having a good time together as a team next year. And I would encourage others to get involved because the Language Café offers the chance to make a difference to the people around you.
