Our events this term: where to look and what to expect!

Last year, we went on some amazing trips with the Buddy Scheme membership. This included a walk round the cities of London and Westminster, seeing everything from the beginnings of a Brexit protest to the Christmas trees of Covent Garden; we travelled around Arundel and took in a wealth of cultural heritage, experiencing a more traditional image of England beyond the cosmopolitan angles of Brighton; we stood on the film set of Harry Potter, in the places that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint would have once been and we teamed up with the Dog Walking society to do a walk round the ever beautiful and incredibly scenic Stanmer Park, a neighbour of the University. Through all of this, it was the students that made 2018 one of our best yet for events, with an amazing group of buddies from places as near as Lewes, East Sussex and as far as Shenzen, China. This made for an ever international community, bringing out the best in one another and this is certainly something we wish to replicate as we head into 2019, a new year with new experiences lined up for our students.

So, what to expect in the next term?

We are heading to the magical world of Warner Bros Studios for a second time, for a collaborative trip with International Student Support. This will allow students to immerse themselves in the filming locations used for the Harry Potter films, and maybe even pick up a butter beer with their lunch! As well as this, we will be journeying to the mesmerising Kew Gardens, where the sights are ever varied, including peacocks, tropical greenhouses and waterlilies.

Further down south, and closer to home, we have more events on the horizon. This includes our Buddy Scheme Welcome Party on the first Thursday of term and our trip to the Brighton Sea Life Centre on the 6th March. Moreover, we will be running weekly Yoga events, same time and same place as last term. These are free for Buddy Scheme members to book onto.

With all this coming up, you may wonder how you get your space booked on an event? Simply go onto our website, buddyscheme.com and then click on ‘Events’ at the top of the page. From here, you will be able to find out information and get a link to get your ticket. Depending on when you purchase your ticket, you may be able to get one on First Release. This is considerably more discounted than a second release tickets, so make sure you’re first in line to get one!

When you have purchased a ticket, be sure to read over the email that includes the briefing and get in contact with us via buddyscheme@sussexstudent.com if you have any further questions. You’ll also be able to read over our ticket policy, which has recently been revised.

We can’t wait for an exciting and ever adventurous term with the Buddy Scheme. For now, keep an eye out on social media for event announcements, which will start from next week. Spread the news far and wide with the other buddies you know and we’ll see you on Thursday 7th February for free food and drinks. Here’s to 2019!
