I started my Boxercise in the first week of the programme here at the University of Sussex. I read about this programme on Facebook and the Buddy Scheme. What really attracted me to this programme was because its FREE!!!
On the first day of the programme, we had the introductory aspect and getting to know one another and the basics of the programme, to my amazement I was the only guy and to be honest I was unrelaxed, but to my greatest surprise everyone was really accommodating, jovial and eager to learn. I felt welcomed. I came for the Boxercise with no knowledge of about boxing, but I’ve been able able to learn basic terminology in boxing like; JAB JAB! HOOK! UPPERCUT!!. These terminologies are very technical and demands mental alertness because you have to do all of them simultaneously and very quickly too with some amount of pressure and twisting of the body to maintain balance. There is also quite good numbers of exercise we also do before and after the Boxercise; the warm-up and the balancing.
We’ve gone past mastering the terminologies, basically everyone has an idea of what boxing is. We’re more into mastering the practical aspects and techniques of boxing, which we are really getting the basics right. The experience and commitment of our tutors is world class and encouraging. They helped us get through the technical process of boxing training and with safety in mind.
Boxercise has really helped me both mentally and physically. The process and techniques involved coupled with the exercise will perform before and after boxing helps keep me fit and ready for the week. Another aspect of the programme that I also enjoy is the fact that it’s very social and helps bring different students of different nationalities together and create a friendly atmosphere amongst us. There is practically no negative aspect of this programme. I’ve been to Boxercise up to 5 times and I’ve never had a dull moment or bad day. It’s always fun and excitement all way round. Boxercise is one good way to keep fit as we go through the academic challenges, the Buddy Scheme and Active US provided this service free for the students and it’s quite amazing and the exercise is breathtaking.
I will definitely vote for the continuity of this programme if need be because of its enormous advantages to the life of the students in the school. I really appreciate the effort of the Buddy Scheme, Active US and everyone that made it possible for this programme to happen , I say thank you.
Boxercise is really woow!!!
