Refreshers’ Week – Buddy Scheme Afternoon Tea Party

On Friday January 27th, the Sussex Buddy Scheme treated buddies to Afternoon tea, to celebrate Refreshers’ Week. Around 100 buddies joined us for a delicious selection of teatime treats including sandwiches, cakes and scones.

As many visiting and exchange students had only just arrived at Sussex from America, this was the first chance they had meet up with their buddies! They had been matched with their buddy volunteer before they arrived, which offered them the opportunity to ask any questions they had about life as a student at Sussex, and to get to know each other.

It was great to see everyone conversing over a cream tea; for most of them it was their first time trying the typically British afternoon delight.  Many were particularly interesting in hearing about the legendary dispute between the Cornish cream tea (jam first, then cream) and the Devonshire cream tea (cream first, then jam)!

The Buddy Scheme Afternoon Tea Party was the first event of the Spring term. There are lots more exciting events to take part in, click here for more information on upcoming events.
