On 8th October Buddies on the Buddy Scheme were treated to a trip to the stunning Arundel Castle. The castle is situated in impressive grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex. It was built towards the end of the 11th Century by the Earl of Arundel. Visitors are welcome to explore the grand rooms in the castle full of historical items adorning many of the family rooms via narrow spiral staircases and old stone walkways. A steep walk up to the Keep gave a great view over the castle grounds and the River Arun. We roamed the extensive gardens surrounding the castle which included the beautifully designed walled gardens with the Peach House and Vinery where they were growing winter vegetables for the castle kitchens. It was very peaceful walking around the gardens with lots of hidden walkways and fountains. We even came across a tree that looked like it was out of Harry Potter and an odd fountain display of a rotating golden crown. After a few group photos and selfies, we relaxed in the cafe with a cup of tea and cake. We were very lucky that following the torrential rain that morning, the sun came out and we were treated to a lovely afternoon. If you get the chance to visit this amazing castle I would definitely recommend going; it’s a historical treat for everyone.
